RSS Feeds

RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS feeds use a language called XML to communicate information. XML is used all over the web for may different purposes, but in the scope of RSS feeds XML is critical (in conjunction with RSS syndication standards) to universally communicate data.

People access RSS feeds in many ways; click on the 'open details' link to learn more. RSS feeds are a no nonsense means of distributing information to people. In the scope of the Interzone E-Commerce platform, RSS feeds can get you in touch with shoppers faster and more effectively. Every site we create has RSS capabilities as well as custom feed options such as social networking distribution.

How People Use RSS

  • Aggregators such as Google Reader, Mozilla's Thunderbird, and Microsoft Outlook all provide RSS support. They will read, present, and manage user feeds and subscribtions.
  • Twitter as well as all the other social networking sites use XML and RSS feeds. We can use API's from these services to send, receive, and alter information. Much of this is in the form of RSS feeds, but there is much more available to us as well.
  • iTunes, for example, is updated with your podcast by registering a specially formatted RSS feed in XML. This is how we get your podcast on iTunes (in addition to some other steps, but this is what we do that you don't have to worry about!)
  • XML is a native format for programs such as Microsoft Excel. XML (the language of RSS) is, to a degree, a universal language for all computers, internet, and devices that need to communicate. XML is not the only language, but it certainly is popular and common.

How Interzone Uses RSS Feeds(and XML)

  • News, events, and sales all go out via a RSS feed as well as other methods.
  • Interzone can create multiple channels of feeds for different needs such as:
    • New Products and product releases
    • Sale information
    • Special Offers
    • Social network information
    • Distribution of information and updates to sites like Facebook
    • Feed information to Flash (or similar) widgets
  • Interzone can create multiple sites that pull RSS information and refer traffic back to your main site. This is an advanced tactic and is handled on a per client basis. To discuss this option please contact us directly.
  • Interzone uses a Twitter-like service and the RSS feed / XML functionality to have an interactive help desk for all E-Commerce sites.

The possibilities that RSS and XML provide us are endless. We consider this to be a critical baseline need for all sites but we also offer signifigant upgrade potential.
